ISS Market Intelligence (MI) recently acquired Family Office Access, adding a robust and trusted Family Office database to our MarketPro product suite. The acquisition brings thousands of verified global family‑office profiles, deeper insight into investment mandates and deal activity, and a team with decades of experience helping investors and market participants connect more effectively.
With Family Offices now representing one of the fastest‑growing and most influential sources of global capital, this combination strengthens our ability to deliver the intelligence, context, and connectivity clients need to reach the right investors and build meaningful relationships. Shortly after joining ISS MI as Executive Director of Family Office, Danielle Patterson hosted Ron Diamond on her well regarded Masterclass series. Ron is the Founder and Chairman of Diamond Wealth, a syndicate of more than 100 Family Offices ranging from $250 million to $30 billion. Through this network, Ron regularly invests alongside the syndicate across private market opportunities.
Throughout the conversation, Ron shared candid insights on the state of the Family Office world and what investment professionals need to understand when working with this unique client type, especially given that no two-Family Offices are alike. One theme came through clearly: Family Offices are entering a defining era.

Here are five key insights from the conversation that the broader investment industry should keep in mind as Family Offices continue to grow in influence.
1. We Are in the Early Innings of a $124T Wealth Transfer That Will Redefine Family Office Influence
Diamond highlighted the scale of the moment as an estimated $124 trillion is expected to transfer from baby boomers to the next generation over the next two decades. This shift will not simply redistribute wealth, it will reshape how capital is deployed.
Family offices, with their patient capital and freedom from rigid fund cycles, are positioned to influence private markets in the same way private equity once reshaped public markets. Their ability to think long‑term creates room for innovation, impact, and strategic investment that traditional structures often cannot match.
2. Family Office Space = a Rapidly Growing but Fragmented Ecosystem
Despite controlling more than $10 trillion in assets, the Family Office landscape remains fragmented and opaque. While Family Offices have existed in the U.S. since the late 1800s, Ron noted that 68% of those operating today were created after 2000, and half of those were formed after 2008. “This is a very, very new industry, and people are trying to figure out what it is, and investment professionals are trying to get into the space because it is where the money is,” he said.
Ron explained that this is why there is not yet a universal definition for the space, nor a standard governance model, and it does not have a consistent operating framework.
3. In the World of Family Offices, Trust Matters More Than Pitch Decks
One of the clearest messages from the webinar: Family Offices invest in people, not just products or performance.
Family Offices do not behave like institutions. Institutional allocators begin with performance and due diligence.
Family Offices begin with trust based on:
- Who are you?
- Can I trust you?
- Do our values align?
The conversation emphasized that families place enormous value on:
- Long‑term relationships
- Authenticity and transparency
- Consistency over time
- Demonstrated alignment with family values
Unlike institutional allocators, Family Offices are generally less swayed by marketing polish and more influenced by trust, reputation, and personal connection. Deal conversations often begin only after months, or even years, of rapport building.
This relationship‑first dynamic requires a different go‑to‑market approach. Cold outreach and generic pitches rarely work. Education, alignment, and long‑term relationship building matter far more. Professionals who approach Family Offices transactionally rarely gain traction. Those who invest in understanding motivations, communicating honestly, and engaging personally tend to build durable relationships.
4. Generational Transition Is Poised to Transform the Investment Landscape
Another major discussion point centered around the rising influence of next‑generation family members.
This demographic is reshaping the industry through:
- Increased appetite for direct investing, co‑investment, and thematic opportunities
- Greater focus on impact, sustainability, and mission‑aligned capital
- More reliance on data, technology, and transparency
- A desire for ongoing learning, strategic involvement, and diversified exposure
Unlike older generations, who may prioritize capital preservation, emerging leaders and family decision makers often push for innovation, global diversification, and more active portfolio construction. This shift is gradually redefining how Family Offices allocate capital and what types of partnerships they pursue. This new generation is focused on solving real‑world problems, from healthcare innovation to climate solutions.
Family Office capital has historically accelerated progress in areas like medical research and entrepreneurship. With this new leadership trend only growing, values‑driven capital deployment is expected to grow.
5. Common Misunderstandings Still Shape How the Industry Approaches Family Offices
The webinar concluded with a candid look at common misconceptions vs. the reality:
Misunderstanding #1: “Family Offices move fast.”
In reality, timelines depend heavily on governance, complexity, and generational alignment.
Misunderstanding #2: “They all invest conservatively.”
Many offices pursue aggressive, entrepreneurial, or thematic bets, especially when aligned with family legacy or operating businesses.
Misunderstanding #3: “They think like institutions.”
Family Offices are unique. Values, relationships, and personal history often matter as much as returns.
