The U.K. financial services industry continues to evolve, shaped by regulatory changes, economic shifts, and growing client expectations. In 2025, advisers face a dynamic landscape: from market volatility to geopolitical uncertainty. Yet, many firms have successfully remained focused on what matters most: delivering trusted, high-quality advice to their clients.
That’s why FT Adviser’s Top 100 Financial Advisers and FT Adviser’s Top 50 Boutique Firms lists, compiled in partnership with ISS Market Intelligence (ISS MI), is more than just a ranking — it’s a celebration of firms that consistently demonstrate professionalism, resilience, and a client-first approach.

A Legacy of Excellence
For nearly 30 years, FT Adviser has published its annual Top 100 list. The 2025 edition continues this tradition, highlighting those who stand out in a competitive and ever-changing market.
ISS MI is proud to play a central role in compiling the list. Each year, the methodology is refined to reflect current market conditions and industry standards. While firm size initiates the selection process, the final rankings are based on a comprehensive set of performance indicators.
How the Rankings are Determined
The process begins by identifying the 150 largest firms by gross sales between April 2024 and March 2025. Firms affiliated with larger groups or acting as appointed representatives are included within their principal’s figures.
Each firm is then scored across six key metrics:
- AUM Score
- Net Sales Score
- Years in Service
- Retention Score
- Estimated Performance Score
- Chartered/Accredited Status
ISS MI receives data directly from over 60 leading U.K. fund managers and investment platforms, covering more than 90% of the U.K.’s intermediary fund flows. This includes discretionary fund managers and alternative providers not captured by Investment Association rankings.
A Broader View: The Landscape Report
The FT Adviser Top 100 list offers a snapshot of excellence. For a deeper understanding of the U.K. financial services ecosystem, ISS MI’s Landscape Report provides further context. Drawing on FCA Register data and powered by Autus (which ISS MI acquired in July), the report reveals key trends shaping the industry.
Over the last eight months, 7,860 firms were deauthorised from the FCA Register, with many consolidating into larger entities. Meanwhile, 4,402 firms joined, and over 3,100 individuals transitioned between firms—highlighting the fluidity and competitiveness of the market.
The Landscape Report also explores adviser headcount changes across the 30 largest firms, showing how some are expanding rapidly while others are streamlining. These insights are invaluable for firms looking to understand market dynamics and optimise their sales and marketing strategies.
“With over 70,000 firms on the FCA Register, understanding what each company does, as well as their size and scale, is vital for organisations wanting to ensure their sales and marketing activities reach their target market,” says Benjamin Reed-Hurwitz, Head of Research Development at ISS MI.
