A Strong Market for Advice
This year’s rankings highlight a particularly strong period for the U.K. advice industry. As financial planning becomes more complex, many firms reported growing demand for guidance around retirement planning, estate planning, inheritance tax considerations, and broader wealth transfer discussions.
At the same time, many of the highest-ranking firms cited a combination of strong client retention, referral-driven growth, professional networks, strategic acquisitions, and investments in technology as important contributors to their success.
A Legacy of Excellence
ISS Market Intelligence is proud to support the FT Adviser rankings through the data and analysis that underpins the annual selection process.
The methodology is reviewed and refined each year to ensure it reflects changing market conditions while continuing to recognise the qualities that support sustainable growth.
Together, the Top 100 and Top 50 Boutique rankings showcase firms that continue to raise standards across the U.K. advice profession.
How the Rankings Are Determined
The Top 100 process begins by identifying the largest advice firms based on gross sales during the measurement period. Firms are then assessed using a comprehensive methodology designed to evaluate business performance, growth, client retention, and professional standards. Criteria include:
- Assets under management (AUM)
- Net sales growth
- Years in business
- Client retention
- Estimated performance
- Chartered or accredited status
ISS MI receives inputs directly from fund managers and investment platforms, providing coverage of more than 90% of U.K. intermediary fund flows. In addition to the data provided by more than 60 of the U.K.’s leading, we capture data from discretionary fund managers and alternative providers that are not often included in many traditional industry rankings.
The Top 50 Boutique Firms ranking focuses specifically on firms with 10 or fewer registered individuals listed on the FCA Register or Directory. Eligible firms are assessed across seven factors:
- AUM Score
- AUM Growth Score
- Net Percentage Score
- Years in Service
- Retention Score
- Estimated Performance Score
- CII or CISI Chartered/Accredited Status
Across this year’s Top 50 firms, the average firm has been serving clients for 25 years, showing that experience and long-term client relationships remain important markers of success. Professional accreditation is another important component of the rankings, as it reflects a firm’s commitment to high standards and ongoing professional development.
